NEWS FROM THE COLLIE CLUB OF AMERICA NATIONAL SHOW:
I was able to attend the national again this year, and I’m so happy I did! Quite a few Deep River Collies and their owners participated at the national this year in Springfield, MA (April 5-12). We had no entries in the herding trials which had to be reduced to only ducks as stock due to farm conditions in MA this winter.
However, we had a great showing in the other venues including conformation, agility and obedience! Total entries in all the other venues were around 1,000 Collies with 788 entered in conformation classes! We had a wonderful time as you can imagine. Some photos are candids from ringside but some are old photos to be replaced by better show photos as they arrive.
Agility photos should arrive sooner than conformation & obedience, so I hope to have those up with more individual results soon. Right now I can say that Ann H. showed Julie CD, RN, AX, AXJ OF in Master Jumpers. While Kathy W. showed Eve MX, MXJ, MXP2, MXJP2 who is working toward her Prefered Mach, she earned Q’s & a 100 at least once in MXP & MXJP.
Susan C. showed CH Cam OAP, OJP, HSAs and CH Sky RN, OJP, HSAd; I believe both were in Excellent Prefered classes. Kathy W. showed CH Demanda in NJP earning a 2nd place. Joan S. showed Tanner RE, NA, NAJ, NJP in NAP with a score of 100 & a first place. Cindy showed Dart to a first in NJP to add to his two Q’s and a 2nd place in Novice Rally. Cindy also showed Jester, one of her CRC Collies to his last two Q’s in Novice Obedience with a 191 & a 194!
In conformation, we had some amazing placements and wins. In roughs my girl Tickle, bred & co-owned with Kathy D., was 4th in a class of 20 handled by Dona W. Vicky S. showed Tickle in Junior Showmanship. Due to bad advice on my part, she made an error that caused the judge to move her to 4th place. Vicky’s sportsmanship amazes me. I told her how sorry I was for messing her up, and she said, “I had a good time, and that’s what’s important, right!” Out of the mouth of babe’s. She and Tickle looked adorable!

In smooths Tim & Dianne’s girl Deysi was 3rd in an Open class of 10 handled by Nick J. Cindy S. had her smooth girl Finesse in Am Bred, with Taylor W. handling, won the class and went on to Reserve Winners (2nd out of 53)! I believe that according to the new AKC rule instituted in January 2013, Finesse got a 3 point major for this win, so since she only needed 2 points prior to the national, this also finished her championship.
Deysi – One of two BOV’s in Raleigh last month over 3 champions!
Finesse – Reserve at the national for a 3rd major to finish!
In smooth champions, Armani, Astrid & their young son, Hairy, looked terrific. GCH Armani HSAs, HTAD1s, who earned his Gold level GCH this year, was also in the Top 20 Invitational on Wednesday night because he ranked in the Top 10 smooths in conformation in 2013!

Micki & I are extra proud of our beautiful Gold GCH Chanel for earning the one and only Select Bitch award again this year. There were 87 total smooth champions this year. It was a tight race between Chanel and the lovely veteran bitch, Ginger, who was the eventual BOV winner.

OBEDIENCE & RALLY NEWS:
Nim finished her Rally Advanced title last weekend – 3 first placements (scores were okay too . . . 98, 100, 99). Guess we should practice some Excellent signs!
Kathy W. called today from ME to say that her tri rough is now CH Demanda NA! Demanda’s agility photos from the national should arrive soon.
Sharon & Fred M. report a wonderful BOV and Herding Group 4 placement in AL on their youngster Sheldon. In addition, Sharon & Shelly earned an Owner/Handler Group 1 on the same day!
Our friend Jody H. called on 4/20 from the show in Shreveport, LA to say that his 14-month-old blue rough girl, Elouise, was WB & BOS after going RB the day before. Now littersisters Ziva, Silver & Eloise are all pointed. Below is Eloise from 10 months ago.
