Dear Friends,

After you read what I’ve written below, please go to my Available Collies page to see the 3 collies I have for sale. The girl on the page will go to a show home only. Please do not inquire about her if you are not willing to show her, at some point, to her championship.

Sorry for no April news yet. I was very sick within a few days of my return from the Collie National in OK. I was hospitalized on April 1 and released the evening of April 8. My dear friends the Sanderson family took on two weeks of my care at their home because I am still on oxygen. Claire cared for my collies at home for those two weeks. I cannot thank them all enough.

Other friends did favors for me as needed, and I appreciate them all. I’m at home as of yesterday afternoon. I  continue on oxygen, but have gotten down to 2.5 liters as of this morning. I will continue to lower my oxygen as my blood oxy allows. Thanks also to those of you who sent cards, and called to check on me. Special thanks to Joel & Nick for the beautiful tulips; I enjoyed them very much!

Gold GCh Chanel

On her trip with Dona to FL, Chanel earned a specialty BOS & BOV, but best of all, she earned back-to-back Group I’s and one Reserve Best in Show! Group judges were Linda More & Mr. Vandiver.

At the four collie specialty shows in western NY, she garnered 4 BOV wins and on to 2 BOB wins!

At the Oconee River KC all-breed shows, Chanel was BOV & Herding Group 2 on Sat. and BOV & Herding Group ! on Sun. She repeated those wins in TN With a Group 1 & a Group 2.

Chanel finished out May with three BOV wins at the Salisbury, NC shows with two Herding Group 2’s for a stellar two months of shows!

Chanel is co-owned with Micki E. & Mary B.

Gold GCh Armani

Meanwhile, Chanel’s half  brother, Armani, earned two Herding Group 3’s and a Group 1 for owner En Chang in HI. Their sire, Scout, will be 11-years-young this summer.

DEEP RIVER NEWS – MARCH 2015 (updated 3/20/15)

National Herding Trials March 7 & 8

CH Deep River’s Joie de Vive AXP, MJP, HSAds, VX

Cam’s Herding HIT Trophy

Owner Susan C. had a case of nerves at the herding trial and persuaded Claire to show Cam in HSAd for her both days, as well as her blue boy, Carson, from Nancy K. Claire did a superb job with both earning a first on Cam & a second on Carson, who finished his title that day. Cam’s score was 4 points higher than anyone elses at the trial on Saturday, so she was High in Trial! The next day, Claire & Cam were first again in HSAd class, finishing Cam’s title. Cam’s dam, Joy, was HIT at the national three years ago in PA with handler Sherry M.

More to follow on Cam’s other CCA accomplishments as well of those of her sire, our Charlie Brown.

CH Kitleigh Charlie Brown RE, NAP, HSAsdc, HXAd, VX

Charlie’s co-owner, Claire, handled Charlie to qualifying scores both days on Advanced sheep. These were very tough sheep (not the ones pictured above). Of 19 HSA runs only one team qualified. In Advanced, some of the experienced HX dogs qualified. C harlie was the only first timer in HX sheep. On Sat. he received a qualifying score but lost one too many points on one obstacle to Q. However, the following day, he did Q, and was only half a point away from Reserve HIT. We were very proud!

National Agility Trials – March 9 & 10

CH Deep River’s Joie de Vive AXP, MJP, HSAds, VX

Click on the link below to watch one of Cam’s agility runs. She Q’d with placements both days in OA, OAJ & in Time 2 Beat, on Tuesday, the only day that class was offered.

National Obedience Trials – March 11 & 12

You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown!

Charlie & Claire made a great team in Novice B Obedience earning two legs on Charlie’s CD with two class placements. The second one was good enough to earn High in Trial on Thursday!

And we have the ribbons to prove it!

Charlie also placed 3rd in the all-champion titled Herding Trial Titled conformation class, shown by Nick J.

Deep River Dublin Hill Ghost Bride CGC, PT, RN

Claire & I are also proud of our 16-month-old Bride who finished her Rally Novice title at the national, and was 3rd in a very nice American Bred conformation class, shown by Joel M. In fact the eventual WB in smooths was the winner of Bridhe’s class. This photo is one Claire took in the park across from the convention center in OK City.

Susan showed her Charlie/Joy daughter, Cam, in rally on Wednesday only and came away with a Q. Cam did well in all four venues offered at the national!

Conformation at the National – March 11 – 14

Gold GCH Ceidih’s Deep River Haute Couture (Chanel)

Once again Chanel has made us very happy with her consistent national specialty wins – Award of Merit in 2015. She has been to 4 nationals and has earned two AOM’s and two Select’s.  I co-own this very beautiful collie with Micki E. & Mary B. who is helping with Chanel’s 2015 special’s career. Dona W. & Taylor W. show her. She is #1 in smooth variety/breed points so far this year!

CH Deep River’s Joie de Vive AXP, MJP, HSAds, VX

Cam comes through once again at the nationl with an Award of Merit honor. The judge is allowed to give AOM’s to only 10% of the champions shown in each variety at the national that are those the judge feels are most deserving of recognition along with the BOV, BOS and the 2 Select winners! We are proud to have earned one in each variety.

We were told that Cam is the first collie of either variety from the Herding Trial Titled conformation class to win an AOM or even make a cut during judging. What an honor – HTTC has been offered now for a decade. She was game to show well for all 3 handlers, starting with Dona W., then Taylor W. and then Jay L. who did the AOM honors. Thanks to all.

Versatility Excellent & Most Versatile Collie in Show Awards

Me w/Sky’s VX loot, Claire & Charlie, Susan & Cam

Deep River was the only kennel to have 3 VX titles awarded at this show. I am not Charlie’s breeder, but I am the co-breed of his mother whom I sold to Charlie’s breeder’s Judy & Mike Pitt.  Our third VX winner, Sky, also belongs to Susan C. and was having fun at Dee P.’s farm while we were gone. I went in the ring to accept his award. See Sky below at the 2012 national herding trials.

Other Important National Information

Larry & Tina P. won the smooth stud dog class of five very nice males and their offspring. Their entrant is CH Divine’s Golden Opportunity sired by GCH Gentry’s Braveheart out of GCH Deep River Divine Naughty By Nature (Charlie/Joy daughter and littersister to Cam).

Larry showed their 7-month-old Deep River Divine Full of Malarkey in a quality-packed 6 to 9 class of thirteen. We thought Marley looked adoreable! (Rafi/Gracie)

Janna W.’s Roger/Sage puppy was in a lovely smooth puppy dog class of 14, and enjoyed all the attention. He was a “greeter” at the set-up! He’s Spiritwind Prize Fighter, and mom, Sage, is a Scout daughter.

Also looking beautiful in the smooth ring – CH Deep River She’s So Fine (Finesse) Owned by Cindy S. and shown by Taylor W.

Also looking great in the rough ring were 6 to 9 month puppies,Titus & Remy.

Titus is Spiritwind Centurion from Janna’s Roger/Sage litter, so he’s a littermate to Janna’s blue smooth boy pictured above. He’s a tri rough that belongs to Micki E., and was shown by Taylor W. to a class third in a rough 6-9 AOAC class of ten.

I am also proud of my barely 7-month-old tri rough, Remy, shown by Joel M. in a large 6-9 AOAC class.  She had fun and got to have lots of new experiences!

Jody H.’s Elouise – Deep River Bankside Wisteria Lodge (Daniel/Ruby) was shown by Laura B. to a class 3rd. Eloise has 9 points now, and is on the hunt for majors.

Ann S. reports that Stirling won the variety in York, PA two days for additional points toward his Grand Champion title. CH Deep River’s Country Song in the Herding Group.

Deb K. tells me that Deep River Bankside Silver Blaze BN (Silver) & Deep River Bankside Merry and Bright UD, RN, FDCh (Anna) are shining in Rally Obedience.

Silver and Anna started off 2015 in the Rally ring. Anna’s Rally Advanced run went very well, with Anna working happily and precisely along the whole course. Unfortunately, her efforts were undermined a bit when I screwed up one of the signs for a 10-point “incorrectly performed” penalty.  She would have had a perfect 100 had I kept my rally brain together. :-) But a Q is a Q, and we enjoyed ourselves mightily! Then Silver also did a nice job, this time in Rally Novice. She was fairly attentive and obedient, and I didn’t incur any 10-pointers. :-)  Silver received a 99, tying for first place. Our time was two seconds slower; we came away with a bright red rosette and the very happy feeling of a job well done.:-D

Ceilidh Katana Marked by Deep River

Shown here with Shirley

Shirley says, “We finished RAE leg number 6 last weekend.  Only 4 more to go . . . We went to a barnhunt workshop a couple of weekends ago, and Nim did very well.  We have a mini barnhunt workshop arranged for next month with Dog Scouts, so we’ll get another practice at it, and I’ll probably get her registered and enter a trial in the not too distant future.”

Jody H.’s GaGa ready to embark on her show career (Roger/Gracie)

Jody H.’s Elouise ready to embark on her search for majors (Daniel/Ruby)

Angie & Ann’s Paris on St. Patrick’s Day

Remy’s sister, Cassie, in the Sierra Nevada’s with owners Wendi & Chris  7-months-old (Rafi/Gracie)

Catherine C. sent this photo of Roxy (Scout/Tori) with Cato the kitty, aka her pillow!

Cindy S. took care of Toby & his sisters (Roger/Tickle) while we were at the national. The girls wouldn’t let the little, muddy boy on the dog bed, so he opted for the flower pot!

Cody & Sophie were the “roll models & baby sitters” at Cindy’s

Tami sent this photo of 7-month-old Switch. He’s a very handsome pup! (Scout/Tori)

Meighan sent this very cute photo of  “best buds” Rayleigh (Brisco/Ziva) & Farliegh (Rafi/Gracie).

Claire did this drawing on a take out bag and gave it to our favorite desk clerk at the national to remember us by!

FEBRUARY 2015 DEEP RIVER NEWS (updated 2/28)

Hi Cliff the Lady Eve PACH (Cora’s daughter)

Kathy W. in ME earned a PACH on her lovely 11-year-old girl Eve on this the second weekend in Feb.  What an accomplishment for our dear friend and her wonderful girl!

Julie RN, MAX, MXJ (Lyric’s daughter)

Anne H. in NY writes about her beautiful girl: “Julie achieved her Masters Agility Jumpers title (MXJ) last weekend in Elkton, FL.  She had achieved her Masters Agility Standard title (MAX) title last Fall.  Also, according to PowerScore website Julie was the 3rd fastest collie at the 20″ Regular Class Jump Height in 2014.  That’s our Deep River girl!”

Deep River’s Lust for Life of Kelwyn BN, RN, AXJ (Karch)

Elizabeth R. writes, “Karch (Scout x Haylee) recently participated in his first F.A.S.T. events.  Rec’d a second place on his first run (on his fourth birthday January 30th) and a first place on his second run.  One more Q needed for his F.A.S.T. Novice 20″ Title!”  Happy Birthday to Karch & his littermates from Deep River!

Puppy in Training Agility Star & Current Agility Star Roxie & Katydid. Roxie (Scout/Tori) Katydid (Indy/Music)

Catherine C. just sent Katydid’s final NADAC agility standings for 2014 by breed. Katydid has quite the record:

Chances – 1st
Jumpers – 1st
Regular – 2nd
Hoopers – 2nd
Tunnelers – 2nd
Weavers – 2nd
Touch ‘n Go – 3rd

Gold GCH Ceilidh Deep River Haute Couture (Scout’s daughter)

Chanel continues her winning ways in St. Louis at the Feb. 7 & 8 specialties. She was BOV in a field of 20+ smooths and on to Best in Specialty Show on Sunday over the rough entry with  Dona W. handling. At the two Piedmont Collie Club Specialties on Valentine’s Day, Chanel was BOV & BOS to BOB at the morning show and Select at the second.

Chanel has another stellar weekend, this time in specialties in South TX.  She earned 6 BOV’s and 2 Best in Speciialty Show wins over the rough entry. (Scout/Candy)

While in TX, Chanel visited Dona’s daughter Rachel’s family. Chanel smooches with one of Dona’s grand babies – so cute!!!

Deep River’s Bankside Unexpected Glaswegian

Also at the PCC specialties, our 12-year-old Junior Handler Vicky S. handled Debbie O.’s 6-month-old tri girl, Weegie, to WB for 2 pts. Unfortunately, the major broke by one entry. Weegie is Debbie’s first show collie and their first show! (Roger/Ruby)

Because when you’re 6-months-old asking for bait in a show pose and socializing with other collies and their owners takes a lot out of a girl, a nap with a friendis in order!

CH Deep River Ceilidh Deep River Next Top Model & Vicky Best Junior Handler @ the PCC (Color photo didn’t turn out.)

Vicky had her hands full handling at the PCC. Below, she’s showing Sandee H.’s young blue boy, Brice – Spring’s son – below. Everyone is blue in this photo!

Spiritwind Prize Fighter (Roger/Sage)

Janna W’s blue boy was WD & BOW at both PCC shows for a total of 4 pts. He is 6-months-old now. I don’t have any recent photos but here’s one of several she sent of the puppies in this litter at 6 weeks. His dam, Sage, is a Scout daughter.

GCH Deep River Crosswind Jake O’Lantern CGC, RN (Aaron/Joy)

Sandy S. showed her boy, Jake, in Veteran’s Class at the PCC where he earned Select. Those two make a great team, and seeing one of my Joy’s kids in the ring makes me remember all the great memories. HTCh DC Deep River’s Comfort and Joy CD, RE, HSAdsc, HSBs, HXAdc, VX, ROM passed away from cancer just before her 11th birthday in December.

Aspen (Scout/Tory)

Aspen takes a rest with 11-year- old GCH Piper (Joy’s brother).

Melissa in MN writes: Just an update that Aspen went to her first show and got her first point with a Best of Winners.
It was quite a learning weekend with lots of firsts for her. She was exhausted by the time we got home but very happy to see her pack.
I won’t have anywhere to take her out again until June, so we will just keep on working on the training, but I’m definitely looking forward to getting her out this summer.

Marley (Rafi/Gracie)

Marley was WB & BOW at several of the South TX collie specialty shows for her first points – not sure how many. She is currently 6 months; this photo was taken at 5 months. Larry P. handled her to at least one win & Tina P. (pictured above) to one.

CH Deep River’s Bad to the Bone (Astrid)

Kathy W. sent this lovely photo of Joy’s daughter Astrid shown in Veteran’s class at the Collie Club of Maine Annette S. She still loves the dog shows, especially the treats!

Deep River Dublin Hill Ghost Bride CGC, PT, HTADIs (major ptd. AKC)

Bridhe is now 15-months-old. Co-owner Claire says, Bridhe was, um, mishandled a little, but I corrected it and she got all her points and one of her wins with a Group 3. UKC conformation shows in Lumberton, NC.

Bridhe & Friends

Claire took Bridhe, Kestral & Glinda to two rally trials Feb. 27 & 28. All three qualified at both trials. Bridhe’s two Q’s were in the 90’s. :-) Claire said that Charlie did well in Novice B obedience until he decided to lie down on the long sit! :-(

Deep River Bankside Sign of Four gets her CGC  (Daniel/Ruby)

Pam B.’s girl, Sydney passed her CGC with flying colors!

From FL Shirley C. writes, Nim’s Intermediate Trick Dog Title Certificate came in the mail today. Clever little Num-Num! (Roger/Gracie)

My girl Remy (Rafi/Gracie) & Cindy S.’s girl (Sophie) both 6-months-old, went to their first shows on Valentine’s Day. Claire caught the shot below of the two of them in the ring.

Here’s one of Cindy & Sophie

Kathy W. sent candids of 6-month-old Zhora at her first show at one of the CT collie specialties. (Roger/Ruby litter)

Anika – Pam B.’s tri girl & Zhora’s sister experiences her first NC snow & ice.

Tami O. sent this photo of 6-month-old Switch at the sporting goods store. (Scout/Tori)

Julie E. sent the photo below of August, also from our Scout/Tori litter.  Julie says he’s ready for poker night with his chewy substitute cigar!

Lang M. sent the photo below of August’s brother, Treve, out in the sun (not much sunshine in NC lately). Must have been bright enough for sunglasses; Treve’s eyes are closed. 😎

Treve’s tri sister, Cass, with her friends in CA. Owners’ Wendi & Chris sent these. Breathtaking views:

Ann Wallace holds her new blue boy from our Brisco/Ziva litter born November 28. He has lots of new toys and a couple of corgi friends!

Ann & her boy below at the Sat. Obedience/Rally trial:

Kathye W. sent this photo of her tri boy, Cole, also from the Brisco/Ziva litter.   He’s resting after his trek from NC to FL.

Vicky’s Dog Show Philosophy

Do we know any collies with names like his?

Happy B’day, Bon! (Kip/Swap)

From Carolynne R. Happy Birthday to my wild and crazy Bonfire! They told me to be careful as to what you name your dog…:) I love you to the ends of the earth! Cannot believe that I have been blessed with you for 3 years already. Where does the time go? You have taught me so much. I already know that you are my once in a lifetime dog.

Chase (Scout/Candy)

15chaseoscarsAlice W. sent this photo of Chase (Chanel’s brother) watching the Oscars!  😉

Tyra asking Vicky to stop reading her book on her tablet – “Let’s do something!

The Perks of Old Age According to CH Wiggy CD, RE, HSAdsc, HIAd, VC: 1)Rest all you want, 2)Beg for treats when you’re around a soft touch, 3)Be as mischievious as you like because at 14 years everyone believes you’re senile, 4)Pretend you need to be carried except when you think there’s no one watching & then do it yourself, 5)Get all humans to wait on you hand & foot.  😀

Deysi & Ziva in the NC Snow

From Tim H.  – We got 8 inches of snow at our house.  Deysi thinks she’s a Siberian out there running around like crazy.  Ziva thinks she’s a taste tester and tries to find the best patch of snow.  Brisco just likes seeing the snow turn yellow!! 😀  He actually has been very stoic, prancing around acting like he is King of the Snow.
