DEEP RIVER NEWS – MARCH 2015 (updated 3/20/15)

National Herding Trials March 7 & 8

CH Deep River’s Joie de Vive AXP, MJP, HSAds, VX

Cam’s Herding HIT Trophy

Owner Susan C. had a case of nerves at the herding trial and persuaded Claire to show Cam in HSAd for her both days, as well as her blue boy, Carson, from Nancy K. Claire did a superb job with both earning a first on Cam & a second on Carson, who finished his title that day. Cam’s score was 4 points higher than anyone elses at the trial on Saturday, so she was High in Trial! The next day, Claire & Cam were first again in HSAd class, finishing Cam’s title. Cam’s dam, Joy, was HIT at the national three years ago in PA with handler Sherry M.

More to follow on Cam’s other CCA accomplishments as well of those of her sire, our Charlie Brown.

CH Kitleigh Charlie Brown RE, NAP, HSAsdc, HXAd, VX

Charlie’s co-owner, Claire, handled Charlie to qualifying scores both days on Advanced sheep. These were very tough sheep (not the ones pictured above). Of 19 HSA runs only one team qualified. In Advanced, some of the experienced HX dogs qualified. C harlie was the only first timer in HX sheep. On Sat. he received a qualifying score but lost one too many points on one obstacle to Q. However, the following day, he did Q, and was only half a point away from Reserve HIT. We were very proud!

National Agility Trials – March 9 & 10

CH Deep River’s Joie de Vive AXP, MJP, HSAds, VX

Click on the link below to watch one of Cam’s agility runs. She Q’d with placements both days in OA, OAJ & in Time 2 Beat, on Tuesday, the only day that class was offered.

National Obedience Trials – March 11 & 12

You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown!

Charlie & Claire made a great team in Novice B Obedience earning two legs on Charlie’s CD with two class placements. The second one was good enough to earn High in Trial on Thursday!

And we have the ribbons to prove it!

Charlie also placed 3rd in the all-champion titled Herding Trial Titled conformation class, shown by Nick J.

Deep River Dublin Hill Ghost Bride CGC, PT, RN

Claire & I are also proud of our 16-month-old Bride who finished her Rally Novice title at the national, and was 3rd in a very nice American Bred conformation class, shown by Joel M. In fact the eventual WB in smooths was the winner of Bridhe’s class. This photo is one Claire took in the park across from the convention center in OK City.

Susan showed her Charlie/Joy daughter, Cam, in rally on Wednesday only and came away with a Q. Cam did well in all four venues offered at the national!

Conformation at the National – March 11 – 14

Gold GCH Ceidih’s Deep River Haute Couture (Chanel)

Once again Chanel has made us very happy with her consistent national specialty wins – Award of Merit in 2015. She has been to 4 nationals and has earned two AOM’s and two Select’s.  I co-own this very beautiful collie with Micki E. & Mary B. who is helping with Chanel’s 2015 special’s career. Dona W. & Taylor W. show her. She is #1 in smooth variety/breed points so far this year!

CH Deep River’s Joie de Vive AXP, MJP, HSAds, VX

Cam comes through once again at the nationl with an Award of Merit honor. The judge is allowed to give AOM’s to only 10% of the champions shown in each variety at the national that are those the judge feels are most deserving of recognition along with the BOV, BOS and the 2 Select winners! We are proud to have earned one in each variety.

We were told that Cam is the first collie of either variety from the Herding Trial Titled conformation class to win an AOM or even make a cut during judging. What an honor – HTTC has been offered now for a decade. She was game to show well for all 3 handlers, starting with Dona W., then Taylor W. and then Jay L. who did the AOM honors. Thanks to all.

Versatility Excellent & Most Versatile Collie in Show Awards

Me w/Sky’s VX loot, Claire & Charlie, Susan & Cam

Deep River was the only kennel to have 3 VX titles awarded at this show. I am not Charlie’s breeder, but I am the co-breed of his mother whom I sold to Charlie’s breeder’s Judy & Mike Pitt.  Our third VX winner, Sky, also belongs to Susan C. and was having fun at Dee P.’s farm while we were gone. I went in the ring to accept his award. See Sky below at the 2012 national herding trials.

Other Important National Information

Larry & Tina P. won the smooth stud dog class of five very nice males and their offspring. Their entrant is CH Divine’s Golden Opportunity sired by GCH Gentry’s Braveheart out of GCH Deep River Divine Naughty By Nature (Charlie/Joy daughter and littersister to Cam).

Larry showed their 7-month-old Deep River Divine Full of Malarkey in a quality-packed 6 to 9 class of thirteen. We thought Marley looked adoreable! (Rafi/Gracie)

Janna W.’s Roger/Sage puppy was in a lovely smooth puppy dog class of 14, and enjoyed all the attention. He was a “greeter” at the set-up! He’s Spiritwind Prize Fighter, and mom, Sage, is a Scout daughter.

Also looking beautiful in the smooth ring – CH Deep River She’s So Fine (Finesse) Owned by Cindy S. and shown by Taylor W.

Also looking great in the rough ring were 6 to 9 month puppies,Titus & Remy.

Titus is Spiritwind Centurion from Janna’s Roger/Sage litter, so he’s a littermate to Janna’s blue smooth boy pictured above. He’s a tri rough that belongs to Micki E., and was shown by Taylor W. to a class third in a rough 6-9 AOAC class of ten.

I am also proud of my barely 7-month-old tri rough, Remy, shown by Joel M. in a large 6-9 AOAC class.  She had fun and got to have lots of new experiences!

Jody H.’s Elouise – Deep River Bankside Wisteria Lodge (Daniel/Ruby) was shown by Laura B. to a class 3rd. Eloise has 9 points now, and is on the hunt for majors.

Ann S. reports that Stirling won the variety in York, PA two days for additional points toward his Grand Champion title. CH Deep River’s Country Song in the Herding Group.

Deb K. tells me that Deep River Bankside Silver Blaze BN (Silver) & Deep River Bankside Merry and Bright UD, RN, FDCh (Anna) are shining in Rally Obedience.

Silver and Anna started off 2015 in the Rally ring. Anna’s Rally Advanced run went very well, with Anna working happily and precisely along the whole course. Unfortunately, her efforts were undermined a bit when I screwed up one of the signs for a 10-point “incorrectly performed” penalty.  She would have had a perfect 100 had I kept my rally brain together. 🙂 But a Q is a Q, and we enjoyed ourselves mightily! Then Silver also did a nice job, this time in Rally Novice. She was fairly attentive and obedient, and I didn’t incur any 10-pointers. 🙂  Silver received a 99, tying for first place. Our time was two seconds slower; we came away with a bright red rosette and the very happy feeling of a job well done.:-D

Ceilidh Katana Marked by Deep River

Shown here with Shirley

Shirley says, “We finished RAE leg number 6 last weekend.  Only 4 more to go . . . We went to a barnhunt workshop a couple of weekends ago, and Nim did very well.  We have a mini barnhunt workshop arranged for next month with Dog Scouts, so we’ll get another practice at it, and I’ll probably get her registered and enter a trial in the not too distant future.”

Jody H.’s GaGa ready to embark on her show career (Roger/Gracie)

Jody H.’s Elouise ready to embark on her search for majors (Daniel/Ruby)

Angie & Ann’s Paris on St. Patrick’s Day

Remy’s sister, Cassie, in the Sierra Nevada’s with owners Wendi & Chris  7-months-old (Rafi/Gracie)

Catherine C. sent this photo of Roxy (Scout/Tori) with Cato the kitty, aka her pillow!

Cindy S. took care of Toby & his sisters (Roger/Tickle) while we were at the national. The girls wouldn’t let the little, muddy boy on the dog bed, so he opted for the flower pot!

Cody & Sophie were the “roll models & baby sitters” at Cindy’s

Tami sent this photo of 7-month-old Switch. He’s a very handsome pup! (Scout/Tori)

Meighan sent this very cute photo of  “best buds” Rayleigh (Brisco/Ziva) & Farliegh (Rafi/Gracie).

Claire did this drawing on a take out bag and gave it to our favorite desk clerk at the national to remember us by!
