CONFORMATION NEWS:
Vicky’s First Show with Patches went very well. Little 7-year-old Vicky is such a smart little girl and a quick study. She had no experience except one puppy match and the few lessons we had at my house, plus her practice at home. She and her puppy are amazing! (Patches is a sister to Shelley & Charlene) Photos taken by Mike Vaughan during 6-9 mo. puppy sweepstakes class on Sat., Jan. 23. They placed 3rd in a very nice class.

Tina & Larry Patterson (Divine Collies) called Sun. 1/10 to say that their smooth sable 7 -month-old Charlie/Joy puppy, Shelley (Deep River Divine Naughty By Nature), now has 13 pts. all majors! Way to go… Shelley is taking after her mom, Joy, who finished at 8-months. Show photo soon of superpup, Shelley!
Lyric, tri rough yearling girl co-owned with Micki Elliott, won a 4 pt. specialty major on Sat. in FL handled by good friend Dona Williams. New photo of Lyric coming soon.
PERFORMANCE NEWS:
Anne Hartranft from NY writes 1/11 about Lyric’s, blue rough sister, Julie:
Julie is starting the New Year off in the right direction. Made her agility debut Jan. 1-3 in CPE with 2 qualifying runs….good for 3rd place in Jumpers (knocked a bar) and 2nd place in a game called Full House which is time plus points… Julie is a very quick collie, and I’m adjusting my handling technique to distance training which is working out nicely. She is not a velcro dog, and her best asset is that she listens while running which really helps when I need to push out or pull her in. And boy does she attack her weave poles! We’re doing CPE again in NH later this month, and then will pick it up again in March. Am considering entering her in an AKC agility event in late May.
On Sunday Julie won 2nd Place in Novice B Obedience at the Syracuse Obedience Training Club’s trial. Her score was 191-1/2. I was thrilled because I didn’t spend a lot of time working her prior to the trial due to holidays and the freezing weather around here. There were 23 competing dogs in the class and 21 qualified, so this was obviously a class full of good working dogs. I was especially pleased with her down/stay because a border collie in Open was working in ring next to us, and Julie really was interested in the dumbell when it was tossed and even more interested in the quick moving border collie going after it. But she eventually looked at me, saw I wasn’t moving, and held her stay. Phew! Our score could have been higher if she had sat on the last halt of the Figure 8; that was an automatic 3 pt. deduction.
Julie also qualified in Rally Novice B with a 92, just missing out on a placement… Just need 1 more qualifying score for Novice B rally.
So….those are my brags for now. It’s fun working with a dog eager to learn. I will begin slowly introducing her to more formal dumbell work along with the broad and high jumps. Am looking forward to the journey ahead! Julie & Lyric are 17-mos.-old and are from Micki’s Mister/Mya litter.

Bobby Chastain from NC writes 1/12:
Just want to let you know that Rocco is still the greatest little rough puppy in Wake Forest, NC! Sonny is still the best smoothie and Sal is still the best rescue.
Last weekend Teamworks Dog Training, the facility where I’ve been training all my collies, asked me to bring the boys in to assist and demo with new session orientations for puppy class (Rocco), puppy confidence and agility (Sonny), and Canine Good Citizen (Sal and Sonny).
Everyone did great and loved the attention from all the people in classes. Their dogs did not attend. All people just oohhed and aahhed over Sal, aka “Lassie”, and Sonny – “I’ve never seen a smooth collie! He’s so pretty and sweet!”, and Rocco “OOOHHHH. How cute, sweet and WELL-behaved. Can we have him?”
Kathy & Micki (Elliott) the primary instructor was confident that Rocco (18 wks.) could demonstrate the CGC requirements even though he’s had little training. So, I was willing to give it a try. I’ve only been working with him on the basics..”sit”, “attention heeling”, “down” and “wait”. That little guy performed all 10 requirements to a T! He also meets the requirements for the AKC Star puppy program….. w/very very little training. I was so proud of him. I was proud of all of them.
Kathy and Peggy (Moorman), Sonny demonstrated proper leash walking and all commands to perfection. He’s so sweet. He also showed off his agility skills and his ability to move at a quick and skinny speed.
Jean (Smith w/CRC), you know Sal’s and other’s issues from being abandoned. He has taken the most work over time, at times worn me out, but has become very focused and just waits for me to give him a job to do. We have a great relationship. He has always been and still is a wonderful rescue collie! In orientations, he performed all CGC and agility perfectly! The class was charmed by his charisma and once they heard he takes Canine Musical Freestyle classes they wanted a demo for that too. So, we performed. Sal was in his glory. His favorite thing to do is to back up around me (“zoom”), then bow (“bravo”)! His song is “I’m too sexy”. He is definitely the class clown and is very proud to wear that title.
What a great group of guys I have! Thanks so much to all of you. The boys give me and my husband a lot of laughs and pleasure. Sal was adopted from Collie Rescue of the Carolina’s; Sonny is from Peggy’s Stryker/Lily litter & is 14- mos.- old; and Rocco is from Micki’s Scout/Giselle litter & is 18-wks.-old.

THE SNOWY SOUTH!
Peggy Moorman from Murphy, NC writes:
Aren’t they so sweet? After a hard day at play in the snow, Armani needed a nap, on a pillow, with his toy and his dad!!! Ted M. & his new boy. (from Micki’s Scout/Giselle 2009 Sept. litter)
Caryn Godin from Atlanta writes:
In case it didn’t reach the news in your area, Atlanta had snow last Thursday night into Friday morning …. anywhere else in the country it would be a non-event, but not here. I chose to work from home on Friday and am glad I did … there was a 27 car pile-up on one of the highway ramps I would have been driving on!!!!
I just LOVE this picture of Maggie … her coloring against the snow on the ground is magnificent … but most pleasing is Maggie!!! She is absolutely beautiful, don’t you think????? I cannot believe Maggie and Harley will be two on March 3 … seems like she was just a puppy!!
