Herding Update

Mixed results for our Herding weekend in Berryville, VA (May 24-26). Joy was a good girl on Sun. at the AKC trial and got her first Advanced A duck Q with 3rd place. On Monday at the AHBA trial on her first try on Level 3 Ranch Course she did well and got her first HRD 3 qualifying score.

Wiggy was a semi-good girl for her first tries in Intermediate A sheep at the Sat. & Sun. AKC trials. She tried on Sat. but didn’t finish the course. On Sun., she did finish the course but lost too many points to Q. We didn’t get to enter ducks since both her previous Q’s were under the judges officiating in Berryville.

Wiggy’s puppies have their first duck experience… We barked, we ran, we played! The ducks didn’t think WE were as funny as we thought THEY were. We don’t know why!?

AKC Herding Trial News from Sat. & Sun., April 12 @ Way-to-Me Farm, Sanford:

CH Joy, RN, HIAs HSAd, HRD II, RLF I finished her first duck Course A title with 1st place.We were disappointed that Joy lost one too many points on her center panels to get her last Advanced Q on Course A sheep but we’ll try again this spring to finish her first Advanced title. Thanks to Dee Penatzer, Joy’s co-owner, for her great handling! Joy is also co-owned with Gary Newsham.

As for CH Wiggy, CD, RE, HSAs, HTAD I, HRD I, RLF I, Claire Apple made two very nice attempts to get Wiggy’s final Q on her first duck title. She lost too many points on her fetch the first day but ran the rest of the course nicely. The second day, we thought we were home free after a great out-run, lift & fetch and smooth work on the Y-chute and the Z-chute. The center line panels were Wig’s undoing. Wiggy had been on maternity leave and only had a few work sessions before the trial, so we’re hoping for a duck title later this spring as well as Wig’s first attempts at Intermediate sheep. Wiggy is co-owned with Nancy Parker. Scroll down to see our beautiful babies from our girl!

Also on another bright note, CH Kate, PT, JHD got her second Started A sheep Q on Sat. during the afternoon storm complete with thunder and some pretty scary lightning at the end of the course. We were really worried about Claire and Kate during the center panels and penning. Kate is owned by Mike & Tucky Vaughan.

Hi all,

Here are 4 new puppy pics below. Cross your fingers and toes for Joy & Wiggy this weekend – each needs one duck Q and Joy one sheep Q for titles. I especially hope for the Advanced Sheep title on Joy!!! If each could finish their Started Duck titles, that would be icing on the cake! Wig had to take a long break for pups but has been doing well this past week working ducks. Hope to have Wig in Intermediate Sheep & Joy in Advanced Ducks for Berryville Memorial Day weekend.
