News from Concord, NC Shows:

CH Deep River’s Bow and Arrow (Scout) was BOV smooth all 3 days in Concord and was awarded a Herding Group 4 on Sat. and a Herding Group 3 on Sunday! Our blue rough boy Bright was WD two days. Joy was entered one day in Advanced Rally Obedience and got her final Q, earning her title with a 3rd place. Our Valerie was entered one day also and got her first Novice Rally Q with a score of 92 (out of 100) on her first time in the ring. Keep scrolling down to see recent photos of Bright and Valerie!

Proud owner Kathy Weare our dear friend from Maine, sends word that Joy’s daughter, CH Deep River’s Bad to the Bone (Astrid) is now also a Canadian champion, finishing at Fredericton Kennel Club on Saturday, July 26 with a Group 2. Astrid was presented in Canada and to some of her American wins by Jill Nickerson.

Joy in HRD 3. She’s sorted 10 sheep and taken the first 5 through the foot bathe. She’s bringing out the second 5 to take through the foot bathe. Then all 10 are put together to work the rest of the course.

This past weekend, June 28 & 29, my friend Claire Apple & I went to Scarlet Mills Farm in Birdsboro, PA to herding trials sponsored by the Australian Cattle Dog Club of America. Claire’s little bi-blue sheltie, Brick, showed the cattle dogs how cattle herding is done earning two Q’s to complete his HSAc title. Brick was High in Trial on Sunday with a 96 out of 100! I’m thrilled to say that Joy earned both her Advanced sheep title and her Advanced duck title! Thank you Claire for handling Joy to her duck title and her last sheep Q! Thank you Dee Penatzer for training and handling Joy to her first two Advanced sheep Q’s! So our girl is now CH Deep River’s Comfort and Joy RN, HXAsd. Sorry the photos aren’t better -my Kodak is not the greatest & I was afraid to get too close!

Herding Update

Mixed results for our Herding weekend in Berryville, VA (May 24-26). Joy was a good girl on Sun. at the AKC trial and got her first Advanced A duck Q with 3rd place. On Monday at the AHBA trial on her first try on Level 3 Ranch Course she did well and got her first HRD 3 qualifying score.

Wiggy was a semi-good girl for her first tries in Intermediate A sheep at the Sat. & Sun. AKC trials. She tried on Sat. but didn’t finish the course. On Sun., she did finish the course but lost too many points to Q. We didn’t get to enter ducks since both her previous Q’s were under the judges officiating in Berryville.
