HERDING NEWS:
Claire & I made the 10 hour trek to the Collie Club of America Eastern Regional Herding Trials in St. Cloud, FL. We stayed with Micki in Orlando and had a great time. The trial was one of the best run that we’d ever attended, started on time both days and ran very smoothly. The farm was lovely. The sheep were nice and workable at all levels. The ducks were, well … not so great, but nothing’s perfect.
We didn’t want to discourage Charlie on his first trial runs on ducks, so we decided not to run him. On sheep, we had some nice success though. Our collies earned 3 new titles! Claire handled Lyric for Micki & me to her 3rd HSAs Q with a 3rd place on Sat. to earn her title. Lyric also earned an insurance Q and 3rd place on Sun. Claire & Joy earned a 3rd in HXAs also.
Claire earned a PT on both Kathy Weare’s boy Thorn and on Peggy Moorman’s boy Armani both of whom qualified both days. Micki joked that Armani earned his first Q and Claire earned his 2nd. He was a bit woo-hoo by Sun., and Claire had to lay down the law to keep him from getting too grippy with the sheep who couldn’t wait to make it around the course and get back to be penned! Thorn was firm but good with his sheep. Photos of all four are below, complements of our friends in Jacksonville, FL, the Smiths.

Armani provides a good example of “form following function.” Sound structure is so important!

PUPPY MATCH NEWS:
Just received an email & photos from En Chang in HI:
Crystal’s tri daughter, Taylor, went to her first All -Breed Match yesterday, along with her brother & sister. (Crystal is CH Deep River’s Snow Fall at Blackpoint) There were 68 entries. Taylor was Best in Match!! The breed and group judge was from Michigan; the Best in Match judge was from Toronto, Canada.
She is a real trouper…it was super hot. She finally got tired, so I had to run backwards with the squeaky toy to get her going. She was only leash trained 5 days ago!!!
I think she was the youngest entry…3 months 1 week. The Best in Match judge said that “you never see collies moving like that where I am from.” And he said she was pretty too!!! The Breed judge said: “Oh so cute”…and when she gave her the Breed (we entered 4 puppies). She also said that she is a great mover!!! What fun.

COLLIE RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS ANNUAL REUNION
On Sat., Nov. 6, CRC held its 2010 reunion in Burlington at Findley Vue Farm. In spite of the chilly weather, the turnout was very good, and included lots of fun, food & education! Jean Smith and her crew did their usual excellent job. Kelly Martin did the herding instinct testing; Nancy McDonald did a grooming demonstration; and I did a collie question & answer session. Everyone brought covered dishes and hamburgers & hotdogs were on the grill. www.collierescue.net
CRC currently needs foster homes for some very deserving collies. Foster care means providing a temporary home for a collie until he/she finds a permanent home through adoption. Please go to our website to contact Jean with an offer of help.
